Principle
The N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine (DPD) method in the GB 5750.11-2006 version of the Standard for the Determination of Disinfectants in Drinking Water Standards.
The DPD reagent reacts rapidly with the residual chlorine in the water to form a red solution. Under the catalysis of potassium iodide, the combined residual chlorine can also develop color with DPD.
Applications
It can be used to monitor the residual chlorine concentration in drinking water, hospital sewage, industrial wastewater, etc. treated by chlorination (or bleaching powder).
